How long have you been with Filtec?
Since last October.
Can you give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job?
Globally I am responsible for all marketing, sales, technical services, and customer services.
What projects have you worked on that have been particularly interesting?
Working with the Executive Team we knew we had to increase our sales efficiencies and market presence. Filtec is a recognized brand, we needed to take advantage of that. We brought in a Director of Marketing and are getting ready to launch a new website. We’ve launched two new products, one called Thermal Glue Inspection. We are getting great traction and compliments on our first installations at a major global brewery.
The creation of our new Application Engineer roles based in the field has also contributed to making our sales team more efficient and helping our customers make informed decisions. We are continuing to expand that role globally.
What skills are most important for a person in your position?
Collaboration and Customer focus. Collaborating with your customers and your internal teams to meet customer and market demand is critical to success. I learned as a young salesperson if you don’t focus on your customer you lose.
What were some skills that you developed early on in your career?
Two skills that helped me early on were listening and asking questions; listening to people and getting people to talk served me well. Similar to the previous question, if you don’t listen to your customer and act upon their needs, you won’t survive.
What are some current issues and trends that are going on in the field that people need to be aware of?
There is a massive movement into canned beverages. A large number of the new opportunities in the marketplace are in cans. It's visible in your local grocery stores. So many beverages are moving to cans. For Filtec, that is amazing because our technology is very good with can inspection.
Where do you see the industry going in the future?
Connectivity and data analytics are key aspects to continue to improve productivity for our customers. Filtec is already doing great things in this space and investing in new technology to benefit our customers and make them more efficient.
What are some hobbies or activities you like to do in your free time?
I like to mountain bike, hike, snow ski, and golf.
