How long have you been with Filtec?
I have been with Filtec for over 12 years.
Can you give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job?
I primarily work within my sales territory. Which includes calling on customers physically, over the phone, and through email. I also travel between 70-80% of the time.
What projects have you worked on that have been particularly interesting?
A project that I worked on that has been particularly interesting was a project with Korbel champagne. The Korbel project finally closed after nine years of reaching out. During those nine years, I was able to build a strong relationship with Korbel so, when the time came for them to purchase an inspection machine, we were their first choice.
What skills are important for a person in your position?
There are quite a few skills that are important for a person in my position: empathy and being a good listener. These are important because it is important to know what is important to the customer and being sensitive to their needs. Because if I can find something right for the customer then it is right for us. It is also very important to be a team player, self-starter, and to not take rejections personally.
What were some skills you developed early on in your career?
I learned a lot through life experience. By that I mean just getting out there and doing the job. Of course, reading and listening to podcasts along the way have helped but life experience has been my biggest teacher.
What are some current issues and trends that are going on in the field that people need to be aware of?
The movement towards packaging in cans and using aluminum has been a trend I have seen in plenty of businesses looking for inspection equipment.
Where do you see the industry going in the future?
Going forward the industry will continue to push the beverage market. With new beverages being released every year there will always be a need for beverage packaging that’s how the industry continues to grow.
What are some hobbies or activities you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy playing golf, skiing, and wine-tasting.
